This blog is being set up so hopefully I can get a group of like minded film makers in the Somerset (England) area can ger together and make a movie and to raise funds for fore mentioned movie.

so if you live in the Somerset county Bridgewater, Bristol, highbridge , bath, Burnham-on-sea taunton or anywhere else where u can travel to brean on the coast near to weston about 35 minutes from Bristol by motorway 45 by train.

all equipment will be being hired by the weekend every few weeks so im looking fore people who can travel here for a weekend at a time. I can probably arrange for somewhere for people to stay and there are tons of b&b's around here.

I will post a sample of the script later today and anyone who is interested leave a comment and ill e-mail u a full copy.

2 years doing media studies at Bridgewater collage producing a 3 45 second advert advertising campaign and a 10 minuet short film about violence

Name: Derek J. Power (although i'm posting as this, i'm better known as djproject)

Age/Date of Birth: 6 September 1982, currently 23

What do u do when you work on films (indie or Pro) (producing, directing, editing, acing, sound, grips, camera....Etc.)?
The rub is that I currently have not done a full film production from beginning to end. Right now, I have done just writing (and I'm still in that stage) and taking the first steps to prepare for production. I anticipate directing, operating the camera/working on the sound and editing.

10 Bands: (there's going to be some individual projects on there) Autechre, Blur, Enigma, Explosions in the Sky, The Mars Volta, Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, Vangelis

10 Movies: Andrei Rublyov, Au hasard Balthazar, A Clockwork Orange, High Fidelity, Le Mépris [Contempt], Le Passion de Jeanne d'Arc, The Producers, Ran, The Shining and Wings of Desire

Editing Software? (if any): I anticipate using Final Cut Pro

Opinions [DETAiLS]: Oh I've got opinions. For a sampling, go to facebook_cinema

best Movie of ALL time: either Andrei Rublyov or Le Passion de Jeanne d'Arc

Do I get booty? =] Seriously, if you are making money off of other people's work, that's piracy. This means that distributors are pirates =]

Best Camera? - in the film realm, I would go for Arriflex (versatility); in the DV realm, I would lean toward Canon XL2

have you ever worked pro?: Nope

ever worked overnight?: Yes but not on a film

Going to film School?: Stanley Kubrick School of Film

ever cried at the end of a production?: Not yet =]

What productions have you worked on?: Currently I'm the production of Omvendelsen

Have you worked pro... if so with whom and on what?: No

Why you should be accepted, & why exactly you applied: Meet with other filmmakers, seeking out advice for all kinds of things that I know will come to bite me in the ass =]

tell us a story about anything (to do with film) that might interest us..
Although I've not been in a film production, there have been moments where I've done small productions for class assignments. In high school, I had to do a group project for AP American History and it was a review of the Industrial Revolution/Progressive Era. For one scene, we decided to do a skit on Pres. W.H. Taft doing "trust-busting." Ian Marley was playing Taft and we stuffed him with pillows to give him the bulge. The way he played him was muscle man a la Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was going to provoke all the industrialists, like Andrew Carnegie. I played the Scotsman but interestingly I needed up looking like an Irishman with my fighting stance. He simply pushed me back. What was amusing was that I was surprised by how much force he exuded onto me (the padding gave him more inertia than he would normally have... transfer of momentum) and when he pushed me, he really pushed me far. I'm also tall as well so my centre of gravity sucks.

Something interesting below...... about your influences?
I finally have a top five director list that I can be comfortable with for a while (and soon I'll expand it to a top ten): Stanley Kubrick, Andrei Tarkovsky, Robert Bresson, Jean-Luc Godard and Lars von Trier.

Oh and this better not turn into a fuckyoucrew affair =]

I'm used to using AVID. I've never used any other editing software. But you can only edit DV on AVID. My boyfriend is making a video for some class and the camera he has uses 8mm.

Does anyone know what software I should download to edit 8mm???

Any help would be nice.

Storing DV Footage?

Hey there! I've been doing DV filmmaking since February, and, in that time, have accumulated some 100 gigabytes of footage on my hard drive. File sizes vary from just under a gig to about six. I was going to start backin them up on DVD today, but the file structure of the ISO format doesn't support most of the large files.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way of backing everything up for archival purposes? Should I encode it to standard DVD format, which will be time-consuming and use enough DVDs that it might be better off just buying a hard drive to copy everything onto (which is doubly expensive should I want to have a backup copy of them). I was considering encoding everything into high-quality DivX, and although I've used it to distribute short films and sketches online, I'm not sure of its value for archival purposes. I'm probably going to want to use most or all of this footage again at some point, for things like making ofs, bonus features on DVDs, or random clips.

I've since begun keeping my original DV tapes intact, but unfortunately that won't help for things I've already copied onto my computer and taped over.

Any suggestions, folks? Thanks in advance!

Something interesting below...... about your influences? Ozu without a doubt. The man is a cinematic genius, and forever changed the way i look at film making. He seems thing as lines and shapes, not as objects and creates art through a moving medium. And probably the gaffer on Miike's "Audition", one of the most beautifully lit films i've ever seen. There are to many influences to sit here and write, mainly because they are all influential for many different reasons.
